Roof Hugger Animated Installation Video

This video, of course, is an Artist’s rendered view of how simple Roof Huggers are installed. It illustrates the sequence of installation from installing our sub-rafters that are commonly included for wind uplift conditions in the corners and edges of the roof. These are not always required, but Roof Hugger will determine their need based on a preliminary design using your chosen new roof system’s E1592 test results. Then the eave Hugger is installed working your way up slope to the primary Huggers over the existing purlins and adding intermediate Huggers between the existing purlins. Our sub-rafters allow these intermediate Huggers to securely fasten to the new roof’s sub-framing system and satisfy building code required wind requirements. Insulation is installed during the new roof installation process if the building owner and roofing contractor chooses to include it. Installation of a Roof Hugger Metal-over-Metal Retrofit sub-framing system is Safe and Easy to understand.

Department of Defense Integrated Roof Project

The Project: Integrated Metal Roof Retrofit with Multiple Energy Saving Technologies, sponsored by the Metal Construction Association, examines key drivers behind the design and development of an innovative new metal roof retrofit system, engineered to both conserve and generate unprecedented levels of energy. Features and benefits of the new retrofit system are explored through an extensive case study of the system's first real-world application that has been monitored 24/7 for energy consumption and performance by the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratories.

Project Location: The Security Forces building at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas.

Installation of Roof Huggers

Video Length: 31 seconds

Video Description: A short video showing the installation of Hugger sub-purlins being installed over an existing vertical rib standing seam that was installed with stand-off clips and thermal blocks. Because of this, Roof Hugger provides a special anchoring screw with a sleeve to promote continuity in the base of the Hugger sub-purlins and positive attachment to the existing roof purlins.

ASTM E 1592 Wind Uplift Testing

Video Length: 1:05 minutes

Video Description: A short video to illustrate the negative pressure testing of a 16" wide x 2" tall vertical rib standing seam roof installed over Hugger sub-purlins attached to a simulated existing 12-inch O.C. "R" or PBR-Panel metal roof.

ASTM E 1592 Wind Uplift Testing

Video Length: 17 seconds

Video Description: Same test as above, but this video illustrates the roof system at its point of failure per ASTM E 1592 requirements. The vertical rib standing seam roof clips failed due to separation between their base and upright portions. The point of failure was at -95 pounds per square foot (PSF) negative pressure, which is reasonably common with the vertical rib standing seam roofs. The Roof Hugger sub-purlins were not damaged or deflected.
